Use of mating disruption in cotton in North and South America

چکیده
The pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), is one of the most serious pests of cotton worldwide causing losses in both yield and quality. Control with conventional insecticides is difficult because the pest is well protected within cotton squares and bolls. Furthermore insecticide costs are high and applications of broad-spectrum materials have contributed to outbreaks of secondary pests. Mating disruption has provided a viable alternative for pink bollworm control. Development of mating disruption for the pink bollworm began 25 years ago and the first EPA registration of a pheromone formulation for mating disruption was issued for the pink bollworm in 1978. Since that time many formulations have been developed and commercialized. These materials represent various use methods and modes-of-action. The effectiveness of these formulations has been demonstrated in several areawide programs. These programs integrate IPM techniques conducive to mating disruption and avoid some of the factors detrimental to the technique.

Cotton Rats and House Sparrows as Hosts for North and South American Strains of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus
Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV; family Togaviridae, genus Alphavirus) is an arbovirus that causes severe disease in humans in North America and in equids throughout the Americas. The enzootic transmission cycle of EEEV in North America involves passerine birds and the ornithophilic mosquito vector, Culiseta melanura, in freshwater swamp habitats. However, the ecology of EEEV in South A...

Abstract In this paper we test two versions of convergence hypothesis namely deterministic or conditional convergence and stochastic or catching up hypothesis using Carrion-i-Silvestre et al. (2005) stationary test. The results show Latin and South American countries (LSA) catching up process toward the USA failed in 1980s and somewhat in 1990s. But in 2000s most of them could lie in converge...

Of the several mechanisms that can bring about efficient resource use, the most widelyapplicable one is intercropping systems that can make better use of resources. The aim of thisstudy was to evaluate resource capture and resource use efficiency in transgenic cotton-peanutintercropping system and in their respective sole crops with using 25-50% substitution ofrecommended dose of nitrogen (RDN)...

It is estimated globally 3.2 million children were living with HIV in 2014, that mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. However, the majority of them infected to HIV from their mothers during pregnancy, during delivery or breastfeeding (1). Antiretroviral therapy (ART) use during and after pregnancy is essential for prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV (2). In the absence of any in...
